Frequently asked questions

01What calculators are available?

Salary sacrifice, salary sacrifice pension, salary exchange, salary sacrifice car, take-home pay, hourly wage, and adjusted net income calculators, all built around UK pay and tax rules for the 2026/27 tax year. See the full list on the calculators page, or use the search box above to find one quickly.

02Are the calculators free?

Yes, every calculator on this site is completely free to use, with no limit on how many times you use it.

03Do I need an account?

No. There's no sign-up, no login and no email address needed. Enter your numbers and get an instant result.

04How are the calculations performed?

Each calculator uses published HMRC and gov.scot rates and thresholds for the current tax year, run through a tested calculation engine shared across the site. Every rate used is listed with its official source on the relevant calculator page.

05Can I use the calculators on mobile?

Yes. Every calculator is designed to work on phones, tablets and desktop browsers alike.

06Which calculator should I use?

If you just want to know what lands in your bank account from a salary, use the take-home pay calculator. If you're weighing up giving up salary for a pension, Cycle to Work scheme or similar benefit, use the salary sacrifice calculator (salary exchange is the same thing under a different name). Paid by the hour rather than a fixed salary? Start with the hourly wage calculator instead, since it converts your rate into an annual figure first.

07Do these calculators work if I live in Scotland?

Yes. Every calculator that touches Income Tax lets you select Scotland as your tax region, and uses the actual six-band Scottish system rather than applying the England, Wales and Northern Ireland bands by mistake. National Insurance and student loan rules are the same across the whole of the UK, so those parts of the calculation don't change.

08How often are the calculators updated?

Whenever HMRC or gov.scot publish new rates, usually around the start of a new tax year in April. Every calculator currently uses confirmed 2026/27 figures, and the sources they're taken from are listed on the About & methodology page.
