Your figures stay on your device

MySums is designed to work without accounts, advertising trackers or storing the personal figures you enter into a calculator.

Last updated: 1 September 2026

Who operates MySums

MySums is built and operated by me, Eman Munir, ACCA, a Chartered Certified Accountant and a co-founder of the site. More about who is behind MySums is on the about page.

The calculators don’t collect your data

The figures you enter, such as salary, pension contributions, property values or hourly rates, are processed in your own browser. They are not sent to or stored on a server operated by this site. Refreshing or closing the page clears the figures you entered.

Accounts, cookies and analytics

This site does not require an account and does not run advertising scripts or trackers. It does use Google Analytics to see, in aggregate, which calculators and guides people find useful, but only if you choose to allow it: the cookie banner shown on your first visit blocks Google Analytics by default, and it only loads after you click “Accept”. If you click “Reject”, or close the banner without choosing, no analytics cookies are set. You can change your choice at any time using the “Cookie settings” link in the footer.

When allowed, Google Analytics collects information such as the pages you visit, how long you spend on them, your approximate location (Google Analytics uses your IP address briefly to derive this, then discards it rather than storing it) and your device and browser type. This data is processed by Google under its own privacy policy. It is not combined with the figures you enter into a calculator, and is used only to understand overall site usage, not to identify individual visitors.

Essential hosting information

Like most websites, the hosting provider may process basic technical information such as IP address, browser type and request time for security, abuse prevention and reliability. This information is not combined with the values entered into a calculator.

Our legal basis for processing, and how long we keep it

Under UK GDPR, every use of personal data needs a lawful basis. Google Analytics is only ever used with your consent - it's off until you click “Accept” on the cookie banner, and you can withdraw that consent at any time through “Cookie settings” in the footer. Google's own retention setting controls how long analytics data is kept; we don't separately store or retain it ourselves. The essential hosting logs described above are processed under our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure and working reliably, and are kept only as long as our hosting provider needs them for that purpose, typically no more than a few weeks.

Since calculator figures are never sent to or stored on a server in the first place (see The calculators don't collect your data above), there's no retention period for them to discuss - closing or refreshing the page clears them immediately.

Your data protection rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

  • be told what personal data is processed and why (this page);
  • access a copy of any personal data held about you;
  • have inaccurate personal data corrected;
  • ask for personal data to be deleted, where it applies;
  • restrict or object to certain processing;
  • receive personal data you've provided in a portable format; and
  • withdraw consent at any time, for anything (like analytics) that relies on it - this doesn't affect the lawfulness of anything already done before you withdraw it.

In practice, MySums holds very little to act on: it doesn't run accounts, and calculator inputs are never transmitted or stored. Most of these rights are relevant to the Google Analytics cookie choice covered above, which you control directly.

External links

Guides and calculator pages link to official sources and other websites. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies once you leave MySums.

Making a request, or raising a concern

To exercise any of the rights above, or to ask a question about how this policy applies to you, email info@mysums.co.uk. There's no fee for a normal request, and we aim to respond within one month, as UK GDPR requires; we may need to verify who you are first for anything involving personal data. MySums is a small, independently operated site without a dedicated data protection officer - privacy questions go directly to the person named on the about page, not to a call centre or automated system.

If you're not satisfied with how a concern is handled, you can complain to the UK's data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), free of charge.
